SHORT DESCRIPTION

The task was to set up a new autonomous residential block on the territory of the former military unit. Having explored the site, we outlined a number of benefits and limitations that led to this concept.

The surrounding area is characterized by nine-storey buildings, which scale down to on-storey development along the street. The site is bordered by an outdoor sports complex and a park. It was important to connect the newly formed housing structure to the existing public life of the city's area and, if possible, to enrich it, to provide a link between the stadium, the Cinema Center and the pond that has already formed the zone of attraction.

The area topography allows making underground parking sties and, as a result, arranging a vehicle-free yards. It was one of the main design criteria to organize future links between pedestrians and the existing park. The 16-storey buildings on Volodymyr the Great Street should protect the inner life of the new block from the noisy highway, and the number of floors will gradually decrease to single-family buildings. The kindergarten will adjoin the most quiet and greenery zone - the formed park.

The first construction site is adjacent to the busy Volodymyr the Great Street. The concept of the volumetric development renders the urban orientation of the general layout. To harmonize the scale, 16-floor buildings are divided into black-and-white square planes, each one combines four windows, visually reducing the floor space. The two axes of the Volodymyr the Great Street affected the visual presentation of plastic facades.

The terrain challenges have become an advantage. Due to the height difference, it was possible to arrange a hidden entrance to the loading zone of a supermarket, and to organize a recreation area and a playground above it. The complex relief provided the area differentiation for different uses - private areas are higher, separated from the public space, but open to visual perception.

Floor plans
Due to the facade alteration and its dynamics, the apartments turned out to be very diverse. Typological basis of apartments is the same; it was changed doe to the volumetric shifts only.
